Fun and Games for Residents at Lexington Pointe Senior Living

Fun and Games for Residents at Lexington Pointe Senior Living

April 18th, 2023

At Lexington Pointe Senior Living, we provide residents with a variety of events and activities to ensure they’re having fun, staying connected, and laughing together.

During the 2022-23 NFL season, our community created a weekly Pick ’Em League — for predicting the winning teams for each week’s games. Here are our first- and second-place winners, Darlene V (right) and Susan U. Darlene won by one point over Susan. Congratulations to both of you! 🏈

With the cold winter temps outside, our residents from Garden Cove 2 stayed warm and active indoors with a friendly game of Pool Noodle Hockey. 🏒

And we snapped a lovely photo of Darlene with her proud husband, John V. ♥

Many of our Lexington Pointe Senior Living residents are big fans of football. So, during the NFL’s big game weekend in February, we hosted a happy hour event to celebrate the match-up of the league’s best teams from each conference.

We had plenty of snacks and laughs to go around. Our Resident Director Emily even wore a set of uprights on her head for the ring toss game. What a sport! Thank you, Emily.

Our residents had a great time watching together and rooting for their favorite team.

Last month, we hosted a 2023 Winter Carnival Puzzle Contest at Lexington Pointe Senior Living. Residents formed teams, with three people per team.

The team of Norella U., Joan D., and Monica S. finished their puzzle first, with a time of 18 minutes, 25 seconds. Thanks to everyone who participated! 🧩

Earlier this month, we raised the stakes at Lexington Pointe Senior Living with a Casino Day. Residents rolled the dice and played an assortment of games including Blackjack, Texas Hold ’Em, Shut the Box, Craps, 6-5-4, Roulette, and Left/Right/Center. 🎲♥♦♠♣

Staff and volunteers — including Leah, volunteer and daughter of resident Dale G.; Emily, Residence Director; Carrie, Activities Coordinator; Chelly, volunteer and daughter of resident Norella U.; Heather, Assistant Resident Director; and Jen, Activities Director — all helped with the individual games.

Players were given 20 chips to start, and Elisabeth V. was our biggest winner! 🎰

At the end of the event, all the players were eligible for raffle prize drawings. Everyone had a great time and can’t wait for the next Casino Day.

National Night Out Celebration & More Summer Fun

September 2nd, 2021

Our National Night Out celebration was one for the books here at Lexington Pointe Senior Living! Community members in attendance were served a hot dog basket, root beer floats, and beer and wine. We also had a “smooch the pooch” kissing booth to enjoy some affection from an adorable puppy. Many attendees wore red, white, and blue in honor of our “Backyard Olympics” competition. Participants played cornhole (bean bag toss), washer toss, ring toss, a putting and chipping contest, and a water balloon toss. Some received gold medals for their victories, but everyone agreed that all the fun of playing together was the biggest prize.

We’d like to give a special thank you to “Denny the Muzikman” for entertaining us with his wonderful accordion performance, as well as the Alzheimer’s Association for their generous donations. And thank you to everyone who participated and made this incredible night of fun and community-building happen!

Lexington Pointe Senior Living’s staff received some heartwarming thank you letters following our National Night Out celebration, including this one from all our incredible residents:

“Thank you for your hard work and manual labor, food, entertainment, and clean-up on Tuesday night! It was fun and appreciated. Many thanks again.” – The Residents

We are so lucky to have such a fun, caring, and close-knit community. Thank you all for the kind and thoughtful messages – we are so glad to hear how much everyone enjoyed the night!

To help deal with the summer heat, we decided to have a water fight with students from the All Seasons Preschool. It was the perfect way to cool down and, as you can see, it spread a LOT of joy and laughter along the way! 💦🤣

Members of our Memory Care units recently got together to shuck corn. Everyone had an amazing time and did an excellent job! A big thank you to Joan and Nancy for helping out. 🌽

A speaker from the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) recently came by Lexington Pointe to give a presentation about traveling during the pandemic, as well as other interesting information and developments at the airport. Many of our community members attended the event and found it very informative and enjoyable.

Earlier this summer, we hosted a tea party during the men’s semi-final match of Wimbledon. Chef John prepared some delicious tea sandwiches to enjoy while sipping tea of various flavors and watching the competition. We also had a trivia game about Wimbledon and tea party etiquette! 🫖☕🥪🎾

Lexington Pointe’s management team celebrated National Tie Dye day in style! Here’s our Residence Director, Emily K., Director of Nursing, Suzy P., and Activities Director, Jen Z., showing off their fun and colorful outfits.

Patriotic Craft & More July Fun

July 23rd, 2021

Lexington Pointe community members flexed their creative muscles with a fun and patriotic craft recently. We created American flags using popsicle sticks, paint, and paper stars, enjoying plenty of laughs and good times along the way! 🇺🇸

Lexington Pointe Senior Living started the month of July off with a birthday happy hour, featuring live accordion music courtesy of our talented friend, Denny. Residents in our Memory Care units also enjoyed the opportunity to visit and get creative with a fun Fourth of July craft. The results were spectacular! 🇺🇸🎉

Lexington Pointe hosted a successful (and very fun) swap meet last month! And anything that wasn’t taken was donated to the local Goodwill.

The Lexington Pointe Garden Club have done an amazing job bringing beauty and fresh herbs and vegetables to our community. We started in May with planting flowers and vegetables in our 8 gardening boxes, and we’d like to give a big thank you to the many tenants who helped us purchase the plants with their generous donations. Our club members have been working every day to water, weed, and care for our gardens, keeping them both beautiful and productive. 🌺🌷🌱

Are you a Lexington Pointe resident interested in fresh vegetables? We keep a sign-up sheet in the mailroom for community members who would like fresh herbs and/or vegetables. Every Monday morning the club members harvest what was requested, so be sure to get your orders in before then! 🌿🫑🥒

Students at the All Seasons Preschool, which is located right on the Lexington Pointe campus, enjoyed an exciting and educational visit from the local fire department before the year ended. Thank you to the generous firefighters for taking the time to speak to the kids. What a fun end-of-the-year experience! 🚒🧯

A few Lexington Pointe community members got together to share some good conversation and laughs over a paper flower and painted mason jar craft. We also hosted a paper airplane event where a small group created and tested different models. Once we found the best ones, we set up a little “paper airplane golf tournament” in our common areas. There’s nothing like making your own fun from scratch!

Lexington Pointe Senior Living celebrated National Hamburger Day on May 28 with some fancy sliders and waffle fries, courtesy of the amazing Chef Josh! 🍔

Lexington Pointe’s leadership team recently received several appreciation notes from members in our community, which we always love!

“Thanks to Josh for the delicious breakfast and all the meals!”

We also received a note of thanks sharing specific services, teams, and amenities that community members noted as “much appreciated” over the last few months:

Thank you all for the kind, thoughtful words and recognition. We prioritize the health, safety, and overall happiness of our community members in all that we do each and every day. We are so happy to hear that it shows!

Cinco de Mayo Party & Other Spring Activities

May 20th, 2021

The staff at Lexington Pointe Senior Living planned and hosted a Cinco de Mayo party for our residents.

Attendees enjoyed a multitude of beverages and snacks, including margaritas, empanadas, churros, and chips and cheese.

One of the many highlights was the salsa-tasting contest. In the running were four different mild-heat salsas purchased from local stores. Sombreros off to the winner: Chi-Chi’s Mild Salsa.

The event was a smashing success, right down to the piñata celebration. Take a look at some of our photos to see just how much fun we had.

The whole gang at Lexington Pointe Senior Living gathered to commemorate and celebrate a Kentucky Derby Happy Hour.

The Derby is all about style, so some of our talented residents participated in a hat-making craft. They designed some elaborate headwear and donned their creations for our event.

Everyone enjoyed good times and great snacks, including some adorable and delicious racehorse cupcakes that chef Josh T. made special for this Happy Hour occasion.

Lexington Pointe Senior Living residents Chuck and Mary F. recently welcomed the spring season by enjoying a beautiful day outside. The warm sunshine and fresh spring air made for a perfect afternoon outdoors.

Chuck, Mary, and all of us in the community are looking forward to more gorgeous days like this. 🌞🌼

National Scrabble Day, Easter Fun, & April Birthdays

April 29th, 2021

On April 13, Lexington Pointe Senior Living celebrated National Scrabble Day – by playing Scrabble, of course! Jeanne G., Gloria P., and Activities Director Jen Zweber engaged in friendly wordplay while Home Health Aide Woody looked on.

This iconic board game was previously known as Lexico and Criss-Cross Words. Inventor Alfred Mosher Butts, whose birthday is April 13, eventually settled on the game’s official and well-recognized name: Scrabble.

Some of our Lexington Pointe residents recently got crafty and had lots of fun making greeting cards.

The Dakota County Library’s Wescott location generously donated greeting card kits to our community, allowing our residents to share some safe social time and put their artistic skills to work. The donated kits were assembled by the Wescott Teen Advisory Group. Many thanks to these organizations for providing us with this wonderful craft project!

Lexington Pointe community members had some fun getting crafty for Easter this year! Check out this adorable Easter bunny decoration that our friend and Memory Care resident, Gloria P., made to hang on her door. 🐰

And, of course, we had to dye some beautifully festive eggs. Everyone loved the opportunity to share smiles, laughs, and good times together with this holiday tradition. Thank you to everyone who participated – they turned out eggs-ellent! 🤣🥚

Happy Birthday to these April babies at Lexington Pointe: Glenda K., Harold J., and Mary F.

Here they are receiving their special cupcake, as well as a “Happy Birthday” serenade from members of our staff. Please join us in wishing them a very happy birthday! We hope you all enjoyed your yummy treats and had an amazing day. 🎊🧁🎉

Super Bowl Party & The History of Cupcakes at Lexington Pointe

February 19th, 2021

On Friday, February 5, we decided to turn our community happy hour into a Super Bowl party here at Lexington Pointe! Our Residence Directory, Emily K., walked around with an inflatable football goal post on her head for a fun “ring toss” game for our residents. There was also a Super Bowl word scramble and football target toss game for everyone to enjoy. And, of course, we served up some Super Bowl classics like chicken wings, chips and salsa, and mini football cookies.

Lexington Pointe resident, Don B., went all out with his Valentine’s Day doorway decorations!

We certainly love a good cupcake here at Lexington Pointe Senior Living! Our amazing Chef, Josh T., and Dietary Aide, Christina N., teamed up for what we’re calling “The History of Cupcakes at Lexington Pointe,” AKA “Christina’s Cupcakes.” We can’t thank them enough for using their talents and passion in the kitchen to provide such a fun (and very, very tasty) experience for our residents. Check out all the deliciously creative treats they’ve been preparing and serving up!
